Sertoma Hearing Aid Recycling Program. The Sertoma Clubs in Topeka collect used hearing aids, to be refurbished into new hearing aids, and then provide them to needy elderly individuals. Many elderly people in the Topeka community are now able to hear, thanks to the generosity of the Topeka Sertoma Clubs. The Sertoma Clubs take photos of children with Santa each Christmas season. The proceeds from this project help fund the Children's Miracle Network through St. Francis Hospital, helping many needy children in the community. Sertoma sponsors the Great Topeka Duck Race annually,
where thousands of rubber ducks are dumped into Lake Shawnee, and those
who adopt a duck have a chance at great prizes. This fun sponsorship
benefits Big Brothers/Big Sisters and our Sertoma Clubs. This is a fun
event! Copies of the Declaration of Independence are given out by Club members to newly naturalized U.S. citizens, in recognition of Freedom & Heritage, another of Sertoma s focuses. The Clyde O. Bracken Sertoma Park is located at 12th & Jackson and is named for one of our former members. This park was built and is maintained by our members. This award is given to individuals each year who provide unselfish service to mankind in the Topeka Community, Past recipients include: Leroy Garvin, Joe Thompson, Lee Dodson, Lou Falley, Grant Cushinberry, Alvin Moran, Terry Harbert & Scott Schmalberg. |
